Trekking tour in Cyclades: Naxos Amorgos
A fresh tender air of Amorgos, bright sun, essence of herbs end a spectacular view of the blue Aegean Sea, the easternmost of the Cyclades, one of those places which are endowed with a magic appeal, a marvelous enchantment, that fascinates a visitor from the first sight. Wild and beautiful Naxos, the biggest island of the Cycladic complex, capturing the traveler with its beautiful landscapes, picturesque villages and endless coastal lines.
Day 1-4: Athens/Naxos: Group's arrival in Athens, transfer and overnight to the hotel. We'll visit the picturesque area of Plaka for lunch and the Archeological museum of Athens. The following day we shall take the boat to Naxos.
The following days we will have the opportunity to hike our way through the most interesting areas of the island including an ascent to Zeus? mountain, the highest in Cyclades; visit the oldest byzantine church of Virgin Mary in Mikros Mystras area and learn about the vast history that evolved in Naxos and it?s role through the centuries
Day 5: Naxos-Amorgos-Tholaria: Today we will visit the archaeological museum and the old town of Naxos before we depart at noon for Amorgos island. We arrive at Katapola port, transfer and dinner at the hotel.
Day 6-13 (Day 9 free for rest): Amorgos. The easternmost island of Cyclades, is covered with ruins from the three kingdoms of the antiquity. Amorgos balances between excellent hiking routes and immense historical sites which we will explore during our stay. Turquoise sea, sandy beaches, secluded bays are but a few of what the island has to offer.
The first few days will be spent in the northwestern part of the island during which we will have the opportunity to visit the infamous monastery of Theologos and the breathtaking viewpoint of Stavros.
The following days we will stay in the south eastern part of the island at the main port of Amorgos. We shall visit the Monastery of Chosoviotissa, one of the most prominent monasteries in Cyclades dating back to the 11th century and the beautiful and tranquil Chora of the island.
Day 14: Amorgos-Athens: Transfer from Amorgos by boat to Peiraeus and from there by private bus to the hotel in Athens. The rest of the afternoon is free.
